The Stobart M-Sport Ford Rally Team will welcome four-time FIA World Rally Champion Juha Kankkunen to the Cumbria-based squad at Neste Oil Rally Finland next week.

To mark the event’s sixtieth jubilee, Kankkunen will contest the eighth round of the WRC in a Ford Focus RS WRC alongside long-time co-driver Juha Repo. The 51-year-old driver started his professional rallying career at Rally Finland in 1979, but the Finn has not competed in the hugely-popular event since 2002.

Henning Solberg/Ilka Minor will also be back behind the wheel of a Ford Focus RS WRC after contesting the previous WRC round in a Ford Fiesta Super 2000. Last year at Rally Finland Solberg sustained damage to his front suspension, which dropped the Norwegian from fifth position and caused Solberg to compete under SupeRally regulations on the final day.

Regular Stobart M-Sport drivers Matthew Wilson and Scott Martin will lead the way for the Cumbria-based team in Finland. This will be the British duo’s fifth outing at the event and they will be looking to improve on their best result at Rally Finland when they finished eighth overall last year.

Also flying the flag for the Stobart M-Sport Ford Rally Team is another Finnish crew of Mattias Therman and co-driver Janne Perälä. The duo contested last year’s Neste Oil Rally Finland driving a Munchi’s Ford Focus RS WRC and finished fifteenth overall. Neither Kankkunen or Therman will be nominated to score manufacturer points for the team.

Force India F1 Team missed out on scoring points for only the second time this season in today’s German Grand Prix. With Adrian starting from P19 and Tonio P22 the race was always going to be an uphill battle, and the mount proved too high during the 67 lap race. Tonio came home in 16th position and Adrian just behind in 17th.Despite missing out on points Force India maintains its sixth position in the constructors’ championship.

Adrian Sutil - car 14

What can we say, it’s been a very disappointing weekend. The first lap I had some contact with Tonio and lost some positions. It was always our strategy that, if after the start I had not made up places, I would pit on the first lap to change to the prime tyres and make up positions when other cars stopped later on. It was a good plan as you have nothing to lose when you are that far down, but there was some confusion in the stop. Tonio had radioed to say he was coming in for a front wing change and as we both arrived at the same time the tyre sets got mixed up and then I had to come in and pit again to get the correct set. Once they were on I got going and I could get quite far up the field but then I had to stop when the set went off. This weekend we’ve just not been quick enough but we feel it’s just a blip and not anything too serious - at some races you just don’t run well, so it’s best to write it off and ook forward to the next races.

Tonio Liuzzi - car 15
It’s been a pretty disappointing race weekend overall. I had one contact on the first lap and we believed we had damaged the front wing, so I came to the pits for a change but there was a mix-up in the stop with the tyres so I had to come back in again. It was a shame as I had had a good first lap until that point and afterwards we had a really strong race pace. It was always going to be tough, but the pace we showed was the same as the top ten runners. We have to look at these positives and look forward to the next race in Budapest.

Q: You had a frustrating first stint at Silverstone. How did things go for you from the start?

It was pretty upsetting because we don’t know what happened with the first set of tyres. With the hard tyres at the beginning we had a huge amount of understeer, and I couldn’t drive to the apex every time, it was really washing out. And suddenly once we changed to the soft tyres it was another world. We were able to push, we had a really good pace, and we were able to catch our competitors. I caught the group of Adrian, Nico Hulkenberg and Michael Schumacher without any problem, and I was also keeping Fernando Alonso behind.

Q: But after the pit stop it was fine?
When we went to the soft tyres I went down with the front wing and the car was balanced and was good. It was a shame because even with the soft tyre we struggled with a lack of top speed, which we’d had since the beginning of the race. We lost a few km/h on the straight, and we don’t understand why, but we have the analyse it.

Q: You mentioned Fernando – you had quite a fight with him!
When he tried to overtake me we had a little contact. He has already passed me once, and I passed him back. He was trying everything to overtake me, but I don’t give him space just because he’s in a Ferrari! I enjoyed it, I always enjoy a fight.

Q: How frustrating was it to lose five places in qualifying?

I was pretty upset because when it happened to me in the first three or four races, I always suffered because of traffic, and they never came to any conclusion or gave any penalty. There was a misunderstanding with the pit wall, because we believed Hulkenberg was an on out lap. He was coming quite fast and I understand that I blocked him, but he did a much better lap afterwards, so I don’t think we actually spoiled his qualifying. I got held up on a few occasions by a Williams, but nothing happened, but that’s racing.

Q: Any thoughts on the next race Hockenheim?
It’s not as linked to downforce as Silverstone, so maybe we should be more competitive and with a better pace. We have to try to score points with both cars to be back in the fight. In Silverstone I was close, but we knew it was not a track for our car’s best characteristics. I think Hockenheim will be better for us, but we still have to work hard and bring some developments. It has a very flat surface, or it did when we were last there two years ago! So you can use a much stiffer set-up, a much lower car.

Q: Is it a track that you like?
Yes, I grew up in Germany in F3, so I really like it, and I drove quite a bit there. So I’m looking forward to it. I think we could be in a strong position.
