The last 3 stages of the World Motocross Championships have been hampered by bad weather and things didn't look much better leading up to the Isle of White event at the weekend. Fortunately the storms that had threatened to turn the Gore Basin track into a mud pit cleared and the 25,000 strong crowd were able to take in all of the race action whilst basking in glorious sunshine.
The track, situated in Arreton on the Isle of Wight has become a favourite for both the riders and spectators alike and was the perfect setting for Muc-Off sponsored rider Billy MacKenzie to show them what he's capable of. He passed race leader Davide Guarneri early on in the first MX2 battle and rode an awesome race to take first place in front of a delighted home crowd. Sadly, he took a couple of spills in the second race and a problematic radiator meant that he narrowly missed a podium position after being forced to retire.
As anticipated, the Muc-Off sponsored mini bike race also provided plenty of action with its all star line up eager to entertain the enthusiastic spectators. After a slow start, former US Motocross and Supercross title-holder Jeff Emig turned on the style and put in some convincing performances to take the unofficial crown and his formidable reputation back to the states fully intact! The Muc-Off crew have attended the event 2 years running to provide the much needed cleaning power for all of the competing teams and we can't wait to go back next year for some more of the same!
