The British Superbike Championship - Brands Hatch

[POSTED 01.10.06]

This weekend saw the final in the British Superbike Championship, with HM Plant Honda's Ryuichi Kiyonari crowning the Championship.

It was a tense weekend for spectators and riders, and with the combination of adrenalin and wet weather, the riders had to be cautious.

Muc-Off's sponsored team Rizla Suzuki saw a horrifying crash out by rider Shane Byrne, as he slid from the white line and crashed at 120mph. This crash forced the race to stop, and due to concussion, Byrne was forced to not return to the track for the second time.

Byrne was not the only rider to crash out, with Gregorio Lavilla of Airwaves Ducati and Virgin Mobile Yamaha's Tommy Hill crashing out also.

Leon Haslam, Airwaves Ducati, was set of winning the championship, but finished in second place overall with team mate Lavilla in third.
