Reigning MX2 British Champion Carl Nunn is currently the top ranked rider from the United Kingdom and brings the prestigious number one plate to the Bike it Dixon Yamaha Racing team for 2007. The 27 year old’s return to Yamaha and Steve Dixon’s crew after six years marks a re-alliance of the initial combination that fired Nunn to international recognition in the 2000 125cc world championship where he dominated the French Grand Prix and picked up several podiums in a breakthrough season.
Since then Nunn – renowned for his smooth, tidy and natural riding style – has attempted the 250cc and MXGP classes with mixed success. A return to MX2 in 2004 sparked an improvement in results, form and confidence. He finished runner-up for the fourth and final time in the British Championship that year and has since not looked back as his trademark consistent points scoring delivered long-awaited championship glory (he never dropped out of the top three in sixteen motos during 2005). His Grand Prix profile also lifted and he has not finished outside of the top eight for the last three years. Nunn’s final 2006 position of sixth was the highest classification by any British rider that term. The father of two has also proved he has the capability to win after an emphatic performance in the first moto of the 2005 British Grand Prix and a further three podium results that same season.
An immensely popular figure in the UK, Nunn’s double British title success in the past two years is wholly deserved; a tight battle in 2006 was decided in the final moto where his determination and experience shone through in a mature display.
