Great end of the season today at Roggenburg , Switzerland, where Gautier
Paulin of Martin Honda Junior team won the MX2 European title. Great race
for 17-year-old French rider from Draguignan who won both heats scoring those
7 points that allowed him to beat Dany Philippaerts. Martin Honda CRF 250
R, that was perfectly prepared by MX 1 technicians that took part in this
European round, was flying on the high uphills of Roggenburg circuit, while
Philippaerts had some difficulties and had to stop his dream.
Race 1 was wonderful, Paulin handled the race perfectly and pulled away with
the lead. Race 2 was even better, since Paulin's rhythm was so impressive that
Philippaerts had to stop his dream and was also passed by French Musquin.
Great party tonight for Martin Honda Junior team, directed by Daniele Soligo,
with DT Jacky Vimond and the logistic and technical staff. It's the first time
that the European title arrives in Veneto, a region in Italy, at Martin Honda
headquarters, where there are already the 250cc world cup that was won in 1991
with American rider Trampas Parker, the 250 cc Supercross world title, won in
1995 with Jean Michel Bayle and 14 Italian titles won in different classes.
The cup will reach tomorrow the team's headquarters, fans and local autorities
will wait for it and will organize many parties, that will last all winter long.
Good results also for Italian rider Andrea Cervellin, that finished sixth
and finished eight overall the European Championship. Next season, he will take
the place of Paulin, who will take part in MX 2 world championship.
Paolo MARTIN Team manager
« We are really happy, winning at our first try seems like a dream. I knew Paulin could make it, in the last 3 rounds he had a perfect rhythm and won a heat in Slovakia and all four heats in Denmark and Switzerland. Firstly, I would like to thank the rider and the Team. Then, all friends and companies that believed in creating a Junior Team for young riders. It was an important challenge both for money and human aspects, in which great companies believed and we are proud to represent them. Now, we have a European cup at our headquarters and a great Paulin who is ready to take part in the world championship and also a great Cervellin who will try to win the second European title next year. It seems like a dream, thanks once again to everybody who work for us and believe in us.».
MX 1
In the Netherlands, Lierop, the motocross world championship finished, with heat wins by sand specialists Strijbos and de Reuver, while Belgian Steve Ramon won MX1 world title. It was a difficult race for Julien Bill, the Swiss rider who had incredible starts this season, who finished with some difficulties the race at sandy Lierop, since he never rode on sandy tracks this season. In Race 1, after a bad start, he had to withdraw, in Race 2 he tried his best but he finished 21st. Bill was still suffering from his previous crash during the practice session and finished 27th yesterday, and it was impossible to start well and score points on sandy circuit at Lierop.
