Qualifying:
Bike It Yamaha UK Dixon racing riders Carl Nunn, Carlos Campano and Martin
Barr all qualified well at the new Donington track held on the in-field of
the famous moto GP track.
Carl was 5th in group one whilst Martin was 8th in the same race, Carlos
finished 8th in the second qualifying heat.
Carl got away well in 7th whilst Martin was in 17th and Carlos 18th, after
the long jump section Carl fell on the right hand corner and dropped back
to 24th whilst Martin came through to 14th by the end of the first lap with
Carlos one behind in 15th.
Martin was riding well and pulled some good passing maneuvers just by the
pit box, having passed Horebreek Martin was soon after French rider Boissiere
who he passed easily after a 4 lap battle. With a few laps left Martin had
his work cut out to catch up with the Belgium Dennis Verbruggen, again by
the pits Martin pulled the same move as before to take 10th place away from
Verbruggen.
Carl and Carlos battled it out for 18th and 19th place as both riders seemed
to struggle with the track and getting a good rhythm and nether riders were
happy with their position at the end of the race.
A few changes to the jetting for Carl helped him have a better feeling with
the bike in the second race and Carl also got another good start inside the
top 7 whilst Martin was again in 17th and Carlos 18th.
Carl got by Goncalves to get into 6th and we were hoping Carl could get
on the back of the front group and maybe get a top 3 with the British crowd
cheering him on. Race 1 winner Aubin was soon pressurising Carl and by lap
4 Aubin found a way past and Carl lost his rhythm as he came under pressure
from Hamlin who also got by the relegate Carl to 8th. Determined to fight
back Carl dogged Hamblin for 9 laps until finally he found a way back past
the British based Yank to finish up 7th in the race.
Meanwhile Martin was having another strong ride through the pack to get
through to 14th which gave him 10thoverall on the day and 2nd highest Brit
after GP winner Tommy Searle.
Carlos also rode well, in fact overtaking Martin at one stage for 14th
but some silly mistakes cost him dearly and this resulted in a disappointing
18th place finish.
Comments from the riders:
Martin Barr "I was happy with my results and the way I was riding today, if I could get away with the front runners then I'm sure I could hold my own in the leading pack after a few GP's. I’m hoping to round the season off with some good results in the deep sand of Lierop this week".
Carlos "I liked the track with all the jumps but I did not turn that into results, I thought I could have finished top 6 here today and I am disappointed with my performance. The next track is going to be very hard for me, although I live in Belgium I still am not that great over 40 minutes but I will try my best to have a good result."
Carl " Saturday I felt good and very consistent but after coming off
in the first race I think I mentally I did not get back into the race and
nothing was working for me so I was hating riding around in 19th place in
front of the home crowd, the second race was a lot better but I should have
pushed more at the beginning for a podium as I should normally beat Tarroux
and Bonini.
Lierop is one of my favorite tracks of the year, it is deep sand and I
like this type of going".
It was a great result for Martin in front of the home crowd, he is progressing
slowly and I hope he goes well this week at Lierop.
Carl was disappointing in the first race after such a good start but he
rode well in the second race and I'm looking forward to some good results
this weekend.
Carlos should have finished top 10 in both races on this type of track
as it was very suited to the French, Italians and Spanish (many big jumps,
stones and hard pack).Lierop will be tough to qualify for Carlos so he is
working hard in the sand this week.
Next races:
World championship round 15 Lierop, Holland. September 2nd
British Championship round 8 Pontrilas, Hereford. September 15th (Sat)
